Artist Statement: Diabolical Bozos

Please Help Me Welcome Diabolical Bozos—a mischievous duo of twin dolls who blur the line between playful tricksters and unsettling figures. They are my answer to the chaotic energy of duality, representing a world where whimsy and horror collide. With every twist of their sinister grins and the unexpected gestures they make, the Diabolical Bozos invite you into a space of both trickery and treat, where innocence and malice dance together in a delicate balance.

These dolls are more than just toys; they are symbols of the unpredictable nature of existence. On the surface, they embody the charm of childhood nostalgia, but as you peer closer, you realize there’s something darker at play. Their antics provoke unease, as they playfully test the boundaries of what is considered cute and what is terrifying. Through the dolls, I explore the tension between joy and fear, innocence and corruption—each doll a reflection of the duality we all carry within ourselves.

In creating these figures, I wanted to tap into the unsettling yet fascinating world of clowns and trickster figures, often associated with chaos and transformation. Diabolical Bozos revel in the contradictions they embody—entertaining, yes, but also disorienting. They are full of tricks, but they are not without their treats. My work challenges the viewer to embrace these contradictions, to find the fun in the dark and the dark in the fun.
